This is an illustration I just finished for my children's publications portfolio.  I was thinking about how my daughter has loved Huskies since she was a little girl.  So I imagined an Eskimo child with her huskie pup, dreaming of running a sled team one day.  Normally, I don't publish my children's illustrations on this blog, but I felt like sharing this one.

"Pushing Through the Storm" 16x20 acrylic

Last year I visited Portsmouth, NH, (my favorite NH town), and it was a stormy day, so we ducked into a little cafe along the river.  There we were, sipping coffee, watching the storm, when a large boat came lumbering down the river with 3 tugboats working tirelessly to guide it safely to port.  I was fascinated to watch the power of these tugs as they pushed hard right into the sides of the ship, causing the tugs to churn up the sea, blow smoke and tip its sides right out of the water.   It was quite a treat to watch, as the wet sailors braved the weather and looked on.

Commission - 16x20 acrylic

I had the privilege of painting these brothers for a commission this winter.  I was so excited to see such a beautiful scene to paint from when the pics were sent to me.  Nothing like a little bit of paradise in the middle of winter!

Beautiful Light, Maine coast

14x18 acrylic
I have been wanting to paint this scene for a couple of years now and finally got around to doing so this week.  I was driving up the coast of Maine one summer when I stopped, got out of the car, and snapped a photo of this beautiful, Maine-coast sunset.  I have looked at the photo for so long that it seemed to come together quickly on the canvas, as if my mind had it all worked out.  This painting reminds of the Bible verse that says "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork...".

The Drum Point, Portsmouth, NH

I love the Portsmouth tugs.  Whenever I am in Portsmouth, I check on what they are up to.  I have often been able to sit in a cafe by the water and watch them work in the river.  This painting was from a beautiful, sunny day when they were resting, snugged up together next to the dock.  The Drum Point was built in 1968 in Oyster Bay, NY and started out working in Baltimore, MD, before coming up north to work the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, NH.

Sailboat - "Rippled Reflection"

16x20 acrylic on stretched canvas
I chose to paint this sailboat because I loved the way the lines of the hull drew up to the stem and then reflected in the ripples of the water.  I took the photo for this painting on a beautiful day last summer, while visiting Ogunquit, Maine.
This painting is available directly through the artist.

Waiting, Camden, ME

SOLD - 2017
I loved the way this little dinghy seemed to be quietly waiting for someone to hop in and start a new adventure.  I was drawn to the beauty of the wooden boat and it's dark reflection contrasting nicely with the reflection of the sky on the water.
