Harbor Morning

16x20 acrylic on canvas
This is a large painting of the historic schooner Surprise, that is docked in Camden Harbor, Maine.  It is the oldest daysailing schooner in Camden and on the National Register of Historic Places.  It was originally built for racing and won 6th place out of 22 vessels that raced to Bermuda after WWI.  The Surprise is still in use today, taking tourists out onto Penobscot Bay.  I enjoyed painting this scene because of the beautiful contrast between the foggy background and the dark boat in the foreground.  It is intriguing to think of this enduring schooner, at rest in the morning before another busy day.
This is another painting destined for Small Wonder Gallery in Camden, Maine.

Camden Morning

11x14 acrylic on canvas
This is a typical Camden summer morning - people starting to gather down by the wharf, the smells of fresh pastries and coffee in the air, and the sight of the schooners many tall masts from almost any street that heads down to the water.
