Fishy Fishy, Southport, North Carolina

 10x8" acrylic on Ampersand Gessoboard
Available on Etsy

I took a picture of this fun, colorful sign when I was down in Southport, North Carolina last year. I had so much fun painting it today.   It just embodies that summertime feel - warm weather, relaxation and good times.

Low Tide Sunset

12x16" acrylic on 2" gallery wrapped canvas
Well, I am happy with this painting at last.
Two months ago, this canvas was painted, scrutinized,
then put under the sink faucet and scraped off.
It sat, turned to the wall, and received several frustrated glances from me
whenever I noticed it there.  Finally, I challenged myself to try it again.
I took a more explorative approach, letting the clouds and reflections develop
as I painted them, instead of restricting myself to the photograph.

I love the sky and reflections in this photo
of my daughter and her dog at the beach this winter.
I'm mulling over the challenge of painting it as a landscape, without any figures...
However, the scenes that are the most beautiful to me
are often the most challenging.
I already tried my hand at a similar sky a couple months ago and didn't like it.
Perhaps I should try a more impressionistic approach...
